LaVant Consulting, Inc.’s signature program Unraveling Ableism is back for the second year in a row. In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Unraveling Ableism will provide a framework for tackling ableism through three crash courses about disability culture and belonging – free of charge.
What is NDEAM?
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 19.1% of disabled people were employed in 2021, compared to 63.7% of non-disabled people. This statistic reveals how under-employed the disability community is. Enter: NDEAM. National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is an annual month-long initiative observed in October to encourage employers to honor the value and skill of disabled people as workers.
Initially observed as a week-long event by Congress in 1945, NDEAM has since grown into a nation-wide push for equitable workplace cultures in every industry. A common challenge of NDEAM celebrations is how to move from awareness to action. LaVant Consulting, Inc. created Unraveling Ableism to help brands take their first action step towards a disability-inclusive workplace.
